Kochi- The mesmerizing city

 

This beautifull lush green city of Kochi was earlier known as Cochin. It is located in the Ernakulam district of Kerala and on trading base it is one of the important seaports of India. In earlier time when kochi was under british rule it stuffed itself to an area comprising of Mattancherry, Fort Kochi, Palluruthy and Thoppumpadi. But after the independence, Kochi city emerged as an amalgamation of the Ernakulam mainland, old Kochi, Kadavanthra, the Edapally suburbs and the exurbia of Kalamassery and Kakkanad to the northeast; Tripunithura to the southeast, plus a few islands closely scattered in the Vembanad Lake.

Kochi city of Kerala has mixed population of Hindus, Christians and Muslims where Hindus form the largest community in Kochi, followed by Christians and Muslims.There is small  population of Jains, Jews and Sikhs also lives in the city. After the capital, Thiruvananthapuram It is the second largest but the most beautifull city in Kerala. In city Kochi the native language is  Malayalam and it is the main language of communication and the primary medium of instruction in Kochi, People also speak english there but mostly it is used in the Business circle where as Hindi and Tamil are well understood but very rarely spoken here.

Koch has been developed as the fast growing centre of information technology, tourism and international trade, due to which the city Kochi has become the business hub of Kerala and is counted among the fastest growing second-tier metros in India.

 

 

Location:

Kochi is situated just 10 degrees north of the equator, that makes the climate of the region moderately hot and humid the year round. In between June-September, due to southwest monsoons the Kochi city bears the  heavy showers with thunder and lightning whereas, the northwest monsoons cause drizzle between October and December and  average temperature of Kochi is between 20°C to 35°C which is not too hot and too cold.
