Initial stage – Kochi Metro – First Bheam



The much awaited and the most fascinating project which will make life happening in the city has broken the ground to relive the freshness.  Assuming beauty of Kochi without a clean, convenient, fast, in time, approachable means of conveyance would never escape boredom.  After all a city is graded amongst its peers on the basis of standard and varied means of conveyance in the city.  One could not refute the progress of Kolkata and Delhi both administratively as well as from a tourism point of view; the two cities stand outspoken example of the modern means of conveyance having entirely changed the life-style of people.



 With the Rs 5150 cr ambitious project or better to say the dream, is supposed to come true in 2016 if all the efforts going in this direction will eventually fructify.  With the words “This will act as the cornerstone in the efforts of reviving the city to the new height” PM Manmohan singh inaugurated this multi-billion project on 13-09-2012.  Delhi Metro Railway will have the unique distinction to make this dream into reality.



Representatives of Agence Francaise de Development (AFD), a French financial Agency, in a massive boost to Kochi Metro project, agreed to ensure funds on time for the Rs. 5182 crore Kochi Metro Rail project.  This not only removed the biggest hurdle in reformation of Kochi tourism, but also set a French connection to the metro and tourism.

The mass rapid transport system will integrate with waterway transport at Vyttila and Edappally.  The two locations which attract major portion of tourists for having a number of places worth visiting in the GOD’S OWN COUNTRY.

The AFD team also visited the sites for metro stations proposed at Aluva, Edappally, Kaloor International stadium, South railway station and Pettah.  The KOCHI METRO RAIL LIMITED (KMRL) might obtain a loan from HUDCO if there is delay in the State government pooling in with its share of the project cost will be used mainly for land acquisition.


The entire metro project will be covered by 23 metro stations connecting two suburban towns Aluva and Thiripurithura while passing through down town Kochi.


E. Sreedharan, principal Advisor of DMRC, restated that the four-laning of North Bridge is expected to be over by the year-end, while Salim Rajan Bridge will be ready by mid-April. The concept of the metro as envisaged by metro man E. Sridharan of DMRC to allow pliers from all across the kochi along with that of the suburban towns approach to main city and attract tourists to the unseen part of this dream city.
